Vodacom Lesotho recently held a comprehensive workshop aimed at enhancing data security and management within the country. The full-day event was well-attended by representatives from the Lesotho Communications Authority, the Central Bank of Lesotho, and various industry players, including financial services providers.

The workshop focused on fostering discussions around industry best practices, regulatory compliance, and effective strategies for protecting consumer rights in the face of increased fraud and cybercrime.

The workshop emphasized the importance of aggregating, storing, processing, and securely transferring data across borders for the advancement of the digital economy and innovation. It highlighted the significance of strong data protection, enforcement, and interoperable systems to facilitate cross-border data flows, especially in the context of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Mosa Thekiso, the acting managing executive for regulatory and public policy at Vodacom Group, stressed the company’s commitment to customer privacy and cybersecurity. He highlighted the importance of workshops like this in keeping the industry abreast of AI regulatory developments and trends while ensuring that consumer interests remain a top priority amid the deployment of innovative, data-driven AI tools.
