Telecom Egypt has embarked on a substantial $600 million venture with Hungary’s 4iG Group to improve North Africa’s digital landscape. Upon completion, this 10-year initiative promises to blanket six million households with lightning-fast fibre networks.

In their memorandum of understanding, Egypt’s leading telecom operator and the Hungarian telecoms powerhouse have committed to a joint venture. This venture will focus on Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) and Fiber-To-The-Site (FTTS) infrastructures, set to operate wholesale throughout Egypt.

Under the terms inked in Cairo, 4iG Group and Telecom Egypt will refine the joint venture’s business model, ownership structure, governance protocols, and technological specifics in the months ahead.

This partnership is a testament to Telecom Egypt’s strategic alignment with ‘Digital Egypt,’ an initiative by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Egypt’s Vision 2030 for digital transformation and economic vigour. It reinforces Telecom Egypt’s position as a premier ICT provider in Egypt.

Mohamed Nasr, CEO of Telecom Egypt, hailed the deal as a transformative step toward catapulting Egypt’s digital evolution, envisioning unparalleled connectivity and future-proof performance for generations. “Partnering with 4iG Group, we anticipate this initiative will reinforce our status as a premier ICT provider in Egypt,” Nasr remarked.

Gellért, Chairman of 4iG Group, echoed Nasr’s enthusiasm, framing the collaboration as pivotal to showcasing Hungary’s telecom prowess on a global stage. “Our alignment with Telecom Egypt not only propels our international ambitions but also ensures cutting-edge technology deployment and top-tier service delivery nationwide,” Jászai affirmed, highlighting the synergistic potential of their joint efforts in Egypt’s fibre network expansion.
