Broadcast Rights: Football League Signs New Rights Deal With UK Sky Sports

Broadcast Media Africa has learnt that EFL clubs in the United Kingdom have approved a groundbreaking deal with Sky Sports for the broadcasting rights of over 1000 football matches each season for the next five years. This record-breaking agreement will run from the 2024/25 season to the 2028/29 season. The deal includes guaranteed payments of US$969m and US$43m in marketing benefits.

In total, 1,059 EFL matches will be exclusively broadcast on existing Sky Sports channels or live via a Sky Sports streaming destination available on TV and mobile devices. Non-Sky subscribers can stream all the EFL action and access all 12 Sky Sports channels with a NOW Day or Month Membership.

This new deal represents a 50 per cent increase in the value of the current rights agreement and will significantly enhance exposure for all EFL clubs. Sky Sports will promote EFL competitions, clubs, and community initiatives through on-air and digital support.

Sky Sports will broadcast a minimum of 328 Sky Bet Championship matches, 248 Sky Bet League One matches, 248 Sky Bet League Two matches, all 15 Play-Off matches, all 93 Carabao Cup matches, and all 127 EFL Trophy matches each season. Additionally, each League weekend fixture round will feature 10 live EFL fixtures, with five matches from the Sky Bet Championship and five from Sky Bet League One and League Two.

For the first time, fans will be able to watch every match from the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy. Moreover, all opening, final day, and midweek fixtures in the Sky Bet EFL will be shown live, along with games played on Bank Holidays, Easter, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and during international breaks for Sky Bet League One and League Two.
