Amr Salama’s short film, “60 Egyptian Pounds,” made history as the first-ever short film to open an Arab film festival. Following its premiere at the sixth El Gouna Film Festival, the film is now gearing up for its international debut at the Fribourg International Film Festival, scheduled to take place in Switzerland from March 15 to 25.

The film revolves around aspiring rapper Ziad and his family, who have suffered years of torment at the hands of his abusive father. When tensions reach a breaking point, Ziad embarks on a journey to free his family from the cycle of suffering once and for all.

Directed by Amr Salama and featuring performances by trap artist Ziad Zaza, Tarek El-Deweri, Hamza Diab, and Rawheya Salem, the short film is produced by Omar Gawdat of Beatroot Records and Omar El Safi of Cinerama Films. The film boasts cinematography by Ahmed Tarek Bayoumi and editing by Ahmed Hafez.

Ziad Zaza is a rising star in Egypt’s rap scene, known for his innovative approach to drill music. His debut album, EL RAYS, received critical acclaim, and he has since gained a dedicated following for his unconventional delivery and bold singing style.

“60 Egyptian Pounds” will be part of the International Competition at the Fribourg International Film Festival, with multiple screenings scheduled as part of the Shorts Programme 1 at Arena 9. Audiences can catch the film on March 16, 17, 21, and 22.
