MultiChoice has announced a list of some of local and international content that will be available on its revamped Showmax platform when it launches in February.

The media giant has partnered with Comcast to ensure a steady supply of hit international shows and movies, as Comcast owns several media companies, including NBC, Telemundo, Universal Pictures, Sky, DreamWorks Animation, and Peacock.

Showmax will continue to feature titles from various production companies such as HBO, BBC, Warner Bros. Discovery, Lionsgate, Banijay, Fremantle, Paramount, Sony, and eOne. Noteworthy international highlights at launch will include popular titles such as Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, and the second season of Halo.

Showmax’s migration onto the global Peacock streaming platform will enable customers to enjoy such titles in HD with Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

The new Showmax 2.0 will also showcase an expanded local content catalogue, including 21 Showmax Originals from four African countries. Over 1,300 hours of new Showmax Originals are expected to be released in 2024 across Africa, averaging over 3.5 hours of fresh local content on Showmax every day of the year. Showmax Originals will include adaptations of two local bestsellers, Red Ink, a serial killer thriller by Angela Makholwa, and Catch Me A Killer, based on the memoir of Micki Pistorius, South Africa’s first serial killer profiler. Reality TV fans can also look forward to shows like Widows Unveiled, Sadau Sisters, Chocolate Kings, The Mommy Club, and The Real Housewives of Durban, among others.

Showmax will also release four films for Valentine’s Day: Forever Yena, Intlawulo, Matilda en Matthys from South Africa, and The Counsellor from Nigeria.

Football enthusiasts can watch the Premier League on Showmax, as it is launching Africa’s first standalone Premier League plan powered by SuperSport. The Premier League plan offers live streams of all 380 matches for viewers who primarily watch on their mobile devices, as well as in-depth analyses and highlights. The Premier League plan can be bundled with the Showmax Entertainment plans. The new Showmax will have three plans – Showmax Entertainment, Showmax Entertainment Mobile, and Showmax Premier League Mobile. MultiChoice stated that details on pricing and launch dates would be announced soon.
