SABC (The South African Broadcasting Corporation) said it has secured the broadcast rights for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled in Ivory Coast from January 13, 2024, to February 11, 2024.

The public broadcaster in South Africa confirmed that all 52 tournament matches will be available live and exclusively on its free-to-air channels across all broadcasting platforms, as well as the SABC Sport and SABC+ streaming services.

SABC’s chief operations officer, Ian Plaatjes, expressed his gratitude to the rights holders, New World Media, and all the stakeholders who worked tirelessly to ensure the SABC secured the rights. He further stated that the SABC was making the content available to all South Africans for free and with no “uncompetitive” platform blockages.

Also, StarTimes – the Pan African Pay TV Network – has secured exclusive rights to air the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, scheduled in Ivory Coast. The acquisition of these rights marks a major milestone for StarTimes, reinforcing its commitment to delivering premium sports content and promoting African sports.

Joshua Wang, the CEO of StarTimes, expressed his delight at securing the broadcasting rights, highlighting the importance of AFCON as a celebration of African talent and passion. Mrs Akofa Banson, General Manager at StarTimes Ghana, also echoed this sentiment, stating that the event represents a significant achievement for the Pay TV platform in its mission to bring the best sports entertainment to viewers.

The matches will be aired exclusively on StarTimes’ Sports Premium, Sports Life, and Beta Sports channels, ensuring comprehensive event coverage for viewers across Africa.
