Nigeria: NIGCOMSAT Supports Domestic Satellite Solutions To Address Insecurity

Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) has suggested that only domestic satellite solutions can ensure guaranteed communications and information distribution security.

According to Mrs Nkechi Jane Egerton-Idohen, the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, the agency is fully equipped to provide solutions to meet Nigeria’s unique security needs. She noted that utilising local satellite capabilities to strengthen the country’s security architecture is important instead of relying on foreign partners for satellite assistance.

Egerton-Idohen emphasised that NIGCOMSAT aims to position itself as a key player in enhancing intelligence gathering, surveillance, and communication for security agencies. She believes that the agency has the capacity and expertise to provide the solutions needed by security agencies. Egerton-Idohen also highlighted NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to delivering dependable internet services, acknowledging technology as the engine of economic growth.

Furthermore, she urged the Kaduna State government to collaborate with NIGCOMSAT to provide broadband access and other solutions that could enhance various sectors, including small and medium enterprises, education, and healthcare. Egerton-Idohen also spoke about the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme, designed to help early-stage companies with space-tech solutions gain exposure and catapult their startups into the global space-tech arena through mentorship and networking.
