Egypt’s State Broadcaster Partners With Stock Exchange To Expand Financial News Coverage

Egypt’s National Media Authority (NMA) and the Egyptian Exchange have signed a cooperation protocol to strengthen stock market and capital markets coverage across Egyptian Television’s channels, placing financial literacy and economic reporting at the centre of a new partnership.

The signing was attended by NMA chairman Ahmed El-Moslemany, who called for the protocol’s provisions to be implemented immediately. The agreement sets out practical areas of cooperation intended to make financial and economic information more accessible to television audiences.

A central element is the development of simplified on-air content, including a programme strand titled Kalimatayn fil Iqtisad, which translates roughly as “Two Words on the Economy”. The initiative is intended to explain economic and financial topics in an accessible format, potentially helping viewers better understand market developments and investment-related terminology.

The protocol also provides for workshops and training programmes for broadcast journalists, creating a framework for strengthening specialist reporting skills. In addition, the Egyptian Exchange’s historic building in downtown Cairo is expected to serve as a production location and a visual element of the coverage, linking the programming to the institution and its history. A joint coordinating committee will oversee implementation.

For the NMA, the partnership offers access to the exchange’s expertise and a regular source of specialist financial information. For the Egyptian Exchange, cooperation with the national broadcaster provides an established television platform through which it can communicate market developments to a wider audience.

The arrangement also reflects a broader opportunity for public broadcasters across Africa to develop specialist content through institutional partnerships. Collaborations with stock exchanges, regulators and financial organisations can support financial education and newsroom capacity, provided editorial independence and clear disclosure arrangements are maintained.

The partnership’s longer-term impact will depend on how consistently the agreed programming is delivered, whether journalist training translates into stronger reporting, and how effectively the joint committee coordinates implementation. Its progress will offer an indication of whether the protocol develops into a sustained financial news offering or remains a limited programming initiative.
