As broadcasters and media organisations across Africa look for ways to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs and respond faster to changing audience demands, Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) is set to host an online industry forum examining the growing role of artificial intelligence and automation in content production and distribution.
Titled “Smarter Workflows: How AI And Automation Are Transforming Content Production And Distribution,” the webinar will take place on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, bringing together media, broadcast and technology professionals to explore practical approaches to implementing smarter, more automated workflows.
The session will move beyond the hype surrounding artificial intelligence to examine real-world applications, case studies and strategies that can help media organisations reduce manual processes, accelerate speed-to-market and allow creative teams to focus more on content creation.
AI is increasingly influencing every stage of the media value chain, from content creation and production through to metadata management, distribution and audience engagement. However, for many African broadcasters, the challenge is no longer simply understanding what AI can do, but determining where it can deliver meaningful operational value.
The webinar will explore how broadcasters and content producers can design, implement and scale intelligent workflows while taking into account the realities of African media markets, including infrastructure limitations, localisation requirements and the need to develop new technical and creative skills.
“AI and automation are moving rapidly from experimentation into everyday media operations,” said Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa. “For African broadcasters, the opportunity is not simply to adopt AI because it is the latest technology. The real opportunity is to identify where intelligent automation can solve genuine operational challenges, improve productivity and ultimately enable organisations to produce and distribute better content more efficiently.”
The online forum will also consider critical challenges accompanying digital transformation, including security, regulatory compliance and operational resilience.
Participants will discuss how broadcasters can balance innovation with robust cybersecurity practices, the respective roles of broadcasters, regulators, technology providers and governments in protecting the wider media ecosystem, and approaches to identifying AI-generated deepfakes, misinformation and malicious content manipulation.
The discussion will also address a particularly important issue for many African media organisations: how broadcasters with limited budgets and ageing infrastructure can implement practical, cost-effective AI and automation solutions.
