ACCRA, GHANA — Black Star Square turned into an ocean of joy when thousands of fans cheered for the Black Stars after they drew 0-0 with England in a thrilling 2026 World Cup game.
An open-air fan zone was filled with supporters wearing the red, gold, and green colours of Ghana. As they followed the exciting match on big screens, they went wild whenever there was an important tackle or clearance, reaching a climax as they celebrated the match-winning draw.
“This was great for Ghana as they would definitely score against us, but thanks to Allah, they drew,” said a visibly relieved fan. “Before we came to watch, many people were saying that Ghana cannot go against England. See us now, even a draw is a cause for celebration!”
The comeback was made possible by the team’s excellent defensive performance and the great work of goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. The Black Stars defended well against an array of superstars, including Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice from the English squad. Supporters hailed their efforts, stating, “We told England we are going to come fully armed in defence. Everything was spectacular, everything was good, everything was 100%.”
The draw means that both countries now have four points each in Group L after playing two games. Ghana will next play against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
