Kenya Intensifies Efforts To Expand Digital Hubs Nationwide

Kenya is taking significant strides to expand access to technology and skills development, aiming to create employment opportunities by establishing digital hubs nationwide.

Currently, more than 300 digital hubs are in operation, supported by over 20,000 devices. A timeline has been established to ensure that 101 of these hubs are fully equipped, operational, and staffed within the next two months.

Additionally, 199 hubs are currently under construction across 22 constituencies. These new sites will be equipped and inaugurated based on a first-come, first-served system.

William Kabogo Gitau, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, shared these updates during a joint session of the National Assembly Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation, where he presented the progress of the Digital Hubs Project.

He discussed the advancements made and the challenges encountered during the program’s implementation, along with the steps being taken to overcome them.

In a statement, the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy expressed gratitude for the backing received from Members of Parliament.

To expedite the project’s execution, the Ministry is introducing measures to close implementation gaps, including enhancing coordination among the various agencies involved in this crucial initiative.
