The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has revealed plans for the second edition of The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA), set to take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre in Kado, Abuja. The event, scheduled from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, will celebrate professional excellence in the broadcasting sector, following a thorough selection process conducted over several months.

Initially endorsed during BON’s 74th General Assembly in Kano in 2021, the awards have evolved into a premier standard for the industry. This year’s competition attracted a remarkable 204 entries, showcasing outstanding broadcast achievements from 2024.

Leading the Awards Selection Committee is Dr Danladi Bako, the former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), supported by a distinguished panel of veterans and representatives from both the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and the NBC.

Winners will be honoured across 24 categories, spanning both the private and public radio and television sectors. Categories include Radio and Television Stations of the Year, Best Reporter of the Year, Best Newscaster of the Year, and Best Producer of the Year.

In a touching tribute, BON will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to several key figures who have significantly influenced the Nigerian media landscape. Honorees include Engr. Shyngle Wigwe, former Director-General of the NTA; Ambassador Yemi Farounbi, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines; Dr John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television; Malam Abubakar Jijiwa, former DG of the Voice of Nigeria (VON); Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim, the first female Chairman of BON; and Mrs Bimbo Oloyede, a renowned broadcaster.

The ceremony will also recognise the contributions of late media icons with posthumous awards, including High Chief Raymond Dokpesi (Founder of DAAR Communications), Mr Timawus Mathias, Mr Okokon Ndem, Chief (Mrs.) Anike Agbaje-Williams and Mr Patrick Ityohegh.

In addition, notable political and corporate figures will be acknowledged for their support of the media industry, including Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation; State Governors Prince Bassey Edet Otu (Cross River), Dr. Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Senator Uba Sani (Kaduna); as well as Mr. Obadiah Tohomdet, former Executive Secretary of BON.

Corporate recognition will be awarded to DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria, Desmims Broadcasting (DITV), and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) for their vital contributions to advancing the Nigerian broadcasting sector.
