As global regulators accelerate the implementation of the first comprehensive legal frameworks for artificial intelligence, the international media and broadcasting sector faces a critical turning point. To address these urgent shifts, Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) is convening a specialised industry webinar titled “AI and Broadcast Compliance: What Players Must Know About Emerging Regulations“ on Tuesday, 12th May 2026.

This high-level session arrives at a moment when traditional broadcasting laws are being rapidly updated to account for AI-generated content, deepfakes, and automated metadata. The webinar is designed to provide a strategic roadmap for broadcasters, legal counsel, and compliance officers, helping them navigate a complex landscape of new rules without stifling technological innovation or creative output.

According to Benjamin Pius, Publisher at BMA, compliance in the age of AI has transcended simple technical checklists to become a fundamental pillar of brand reputation and legal survival. He notes that from the EU AI Act to emerging regional frameworks across Africa and Asia, broadcast players must understand their specific liabilities today to avoid significant penalties and operational disruptions in the future.

The discussion will focus on several high-priority areas, beginning with a comprehensive overview of the global regulatory map and how localised broadcasting directives impact cross-border content distribution. Experts will also dive into the murky waters of liability and attribution, helping organisations understand who is legally responsible when AI-generated “hallucinations” or copyrighted materials end up in news and entertainment broadcasts.

Furthermore, the event will address the “Deepfake Mandate,” exploring how emerging laws require broadcasters to clearly label AI-synthesised media and verify the authenticity of high-stakes footage. The panel will conclude by examining new requirements for algorithmic transparency, particularly for broadcasters using machine learning to personalise content feeds and target advertisements to diverse audiences.

Featuring a distinguished panel of legal experts, regulatory consultants, and broadcast technology leaders, this session will offer actionable strategies for building an “AI-ready” compliance department. The webinar is an essential engagement for any media professional looking to balance the efficiency of automation with the necessity of legal oversight.
