In South Africa, local video-on-demand service eVOD has reached 2.2 million registered users in the third quarter of 2025, according to the company’s latest report.
eVOD, which operates under the umbrella of eMedia, the parent organisation of e.tv and Openview, shared that it has seen a remarkable 22% year-on-year growth in user registrations, demonstrating “ongoing audience engagement and adoption.”
In its statement, eVOD highlighted recent enhancements to the platform, including the introduction of offline downloads and wider accessibility via Android devices and Hisense smart TVs.
Launched in October 2021, eVOD is navigating a competitive landscape that includes major players such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Hong Kong’s Viu, Showmax, and SABC+, each vying for a share of the viewership market.
The platform is available to South African viewers at no charge and boasts an impressive library of over 9,000 hours of content.
eVOD reported a 56% increase in watch time when comparing 2024 to 2025. Building on this growth, the platform intends to roll out five original productions in 2026.
Looking forward, eVOD is committed to “broadening its offerings and enhancing the viewing experience for audiences across the nation.”
