The anticipated Zootopia 2 has already made a significant mark at the box office, surpassing numerous Hollywood blockbusters and ranking among the top 20 highest-grossing films of 2025. Read on for the details.
As it approaches the conclusion of its opening weekend, Zootopia 2 is on the verge of hitting the US$250 million milestone globally. The film has grossed nearly US$100 million in China alone, underscoring its massive international appeal. Domestically, it narrowly missed the US$100 million mark on Friday, its third day since release.
The sequel, which has received favourable reviews from audiences and critics alike, is captivating viewers during its debut weekend. Until the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash in late December, it faced no significant competition at the box office. This makes it the top animated feature of the year, having already outperformed the original Pixar film, Elio, and overshadowing big-budget misfires like One Battle After Another and Snow White in just three days.
According to a report by Luiz Fernando, the film added US$61.3 million at the international box office on Friday, bringing its overseas total to US$135.3 million in just three days, including US$94.2 million from China. Combined with its US$97.7 million domestic earnings, the worldwide total amounts to US$233.0 million, and it crossed the US$250 million threshold by Saturday.
Already claiming the title of the 19th highest-grossing film of 2025, Zootopia 2 has outdone several major contenders, surpassing Snow White’s US$205.6 million and One Battle After Another’s US$202.1 million. Predictions suggest it could even break into the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2025 during its opening weekend.
Based on media forecasts, the sequel is expected to exceed US$500 million shortly. Estimates indicate that Zootopia 2 will earn between US$155 million and US$165 million over its five-day opening weekend in North America, while international earnings are projected to range from US$365 million to US$410 million, for a total global opening weekend of approximately US$520 million to US$575 million. The film officially premiered on November 26.
