MultiChoice Slashes Decoder Prices And Unveils Exciting Upgrades Following Canal+ Acquisition

MultiChoice has significantly lowered the price of its Model 10S HD Single View decoder. Customers can now purchase it for US$17.33 (installation not included), down from US$40.52.

This price reduction is part of MultiChoice’s Thol-iUpsize promotion, which also allows existing decoder users on lower-tier packages to upgrade to higher-tier options at no extra cost.

While the promotion announcement didn’t explicitly highlight this, DStv has quietly reduced the cost of its HD Single View decoder. From now until December 31, 2025, customers can acquire the decoder for the new promotional prices of US$17.33 and US$40.52 for installation.

“Get your DStv HD decoder for just US$17.33, our way of thanking you for 30 amazing years,” states the broadcaster’s website.

Recently, DStv held an Open Time event on November 8 and 9, 2025, which allowed subscribers paying as little as US$8.06 per month to access the Premium bouquet worth US$46.32 per month.

Following this, the Thol-iUpsize promotion was announced, enabling decoder customers on lower-tier packages to enjoy complimentary upgrades to higher tiers until the end of 2025. Access and Family customers were upgraded to the Compact package, while Compact and Compact Plus customers were granted access to the DStv Premium bouquet.

Additionally, Premium package subscribers won’t miss out, as they can enjoy up to four concurrent streams until December 31, 2025. Streaming customers can also anticipate extra rewards during this promotional period.

MultiChoice has also enhanced its online store to simplify the purchasing experience and facilitate doorstep delivery for its products.

In a recent development, Groupe Canal+, the French media giant, has completed the acquisition of MultiChoice. According to Canal+ Africa CEO David Mignot, South African customers have much to look forward to.

In an August 2025 address, Mignot indicated that MultiChoice customers could expect a wealth of new content following Canal+’s takeover. He noted that Canal+ has the largest library of European content, including thousands of movies and series, and that the companies plan to combine their catalogues.

“MultiChoice’s content is exceptional. We will leverage the strengths of both groups,” Mignot stated. “Customers will gain access to everything Canal+ offers, including 9,000 movies from our extensive library of European and American content.”

Moreover, Mignot highlighted Canal+’s significant local content production, generating 4,000 hours of African content in multiple languages annually. He affirmed that MultiChoice customers would also get to enjoy this, alongside the 6,000 hours of local content produced by MultiChoice each year.

“Together, we aim to provide approximately 10,000 hours of content yearly across 20 to 35 languages. Over a 10- to 15-year span, we plan to build a catalogue exceeding 100,000 to 150,000 hours, allowing our content to reach a wider audience,” he explained.

While there have been no announcements regarding new channels on MultiChoice platforms yet, Canal+ has already begun adding new content to existing channels. For instance, in mid-October 2025, DStv introduced live broadcasts of French Ligue 1 football matches to the SuperSport lineup, marking the first significant addition since Groupe Canal+ took control of the MultiChoice Group on September 22, 2025.
