The Senegalese President Bassirou Faye has warned that Africa faces the risk of chronic undernourishment for hundreds of millions of people if urgent action is not taken, while highlighting the continent’s potential to achieve food self-sufficiency and even contribute to feeding the world.
In the video report, President Faye is speaking at the 2025 African Food Systems Forum (AFSF) in Dakar on Monday, as he stresses that Africa stands at a “decisive turning point”. He emphasized that Africa’s vast natural resources — including 65 percent of the world’s arable land and abundant water supplies — coupled with its youthful population, positioned the continent to transform its food systems and secure its future.
President Faye also highlighted the need for education, training, and empowerment of young people to ensure they become the driving force behind modern, sustainable, and innovative agriculture.
The video attached shows President Faye addressing delegates at the forum, held under the theme “Africa’s Youth: Leading Collaboration, Innovation, and Implementation of Agri-Food Systems Transformation.”
