The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has decided to revoke the broadcasting licenses of at least 42 television stations nationwide.
According to a gazette notice issued by CA Director General David Mugonyi, this revocation will take effect within a week.
The notice emphasises that all assets belonging to the affected stations will be returned to the authority immediately after the licenses are cancelled. As a result, these stations will be barred from conducting operations or offering broadcasting services.
“This notification is made per the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act (Cap. 411), indicating that the Communications Authority of Kenya will cancel the postal licenses of the listed service providers within seven days from the date of this Gazette Notice. Following the revocation, the licensees will no longer be permitted to operate and provide these services,” the notice states.
This action comes roughly five months after the CA shut down over 58 television stations nationwide.
