As the Nigerian box office continues to thrive, Inkblot’s latest film, ‘Family Gbese’, has achieved an impressive gross of US$16 695.09 just two weeks after its debut.

The movie earned US$ 9,030.79 in its opening week and followed up with US$7,545.47 in the subsequent week, showcasing its strong performance.

Family Gbese tells the compelling story of a young man who, despite finding success in his career, is deeply troubled by his elder brother’s gambling addiction. His brother’s mounting debts to dangerous street gangs force him to confront a difficult choice: should he prioritize the safety of his family or the future of his romantic relationship? The film delves into themes of family, loyalty, and the sacrifices that come with success.

This release follows the triumph of Inkblot’s previous film, Muri & Ko, which grossed over US$59,413.12. Family Gbese premiered in cinemas on November 8, 2024.

Directed by Michelle Bello, a British-Nigerian filmmaker, Family Gbese marks another milestone in her career, which began in 2007 as a producer on Moments With Mo. She has since directed various projects, including Sesame Street Nigeria, and her debut feature film, Small Boy, received nominations at prestigious film festivals, including the American Black Film Festival. Bello’s talent has been recognized with two awards at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2009 and the Trailblazer Award at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2014.

The film boasts a stellar cast featuring Ireti Doyle, Muyiwa Ademola, Adeniyi Johnson, Yemi Solade, Fathia Williams, Seun Kentebe, Mike Ezuruonye, Teniola Aladese, Lilian Afegbai, Sandar Okunzuwa, Genovevah Umeh, and Susan Peters, promising an engaging cinematic experience.
