The Broadcast Media Awards (BMA) 2025 concluded on the 29th October 2025 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, in a spectacular ceremony, celebrating the trailblazers and content creators driving the future of African broadcasting and digital media. The awards recognised innovation, executive leadership, and commitment to local storytelling, underscoring the continent’s dynamic media landscape.

The night’s top awards went to David Tiltmann and Minenhle Dlamini, who were named Media Executive of the Year (Male and Female), respectively, for their visionary leadership and significant contributions to their organisations.

The core categories, celebrating content depth and distribution platforms, saw powerful industry players receive recognition:

  • Best Local Content Range On TV: ZNBC TV was honoured for its exceptional depth and quality in local programming, showcasing a strong commitment to Zambian narratives and cultural relevance.
  • The Best Local Content Range On Radio award went to Sputnik Africa, recognising its widely consumed broadcast content.
  • Best OTT/Streaming: FreeVision Play secured the award for its innovative platform, user experience, and curated offering in the rapidly growing digital space.

In the critical infrastructure and technology sector, the awards recognised the backbone of the broadcast industry:

  • Satellite Operator of the Year: The award was presented to SES, confirming its role as a leading provider of connectivity solutions that enable reach and coverage across diverse markets.
  • Technology Partner of the Year: The BMA recognised Sentech as the Technology Partner of the Year, celebrating their critical support and innovation in driving technological advancement within the broadcast ecosystem.

Special Recognition Award

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Special Recognition Award to Stanley Similo, Director-General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and the President of SABA. Mr Similo was honoured for his decades of dedicated service and leadership in elevating public broadcasting standards, as well as for his commitment to media freedom and development across the region.

The Special Recognition Award was presented to DW (Deutsche Welle), underscoring international collaboration in supporting media excellence.

“The 2025 winners represent the resilience, creativity, and technological sophistication of the African media sector,” said Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa. “From visionary executives like David Tiltmann and Minenhle Dlamini to essential service providers like SES and ZNBC, these awards reflect a market that is not just growing but constantly redefining what high-quality media looks like.”
