Iridium Acquires Satelles And Launches Satellite Time and Location (STL)

Iridium has successfully acquired its long-time partner, Satelles, and has now integrated the company’s Satellite Time and Location (STL) service. The completion of Iridium’s first-ever acquisition was announced on April 2, following the initial announcement of the acquisition in March.

The service, now known as Iridium STL, aims to enhance the security of GPS and other GNSS-reliant systems by safeguarding them from spoofing and jamming. It utilizes hardware that does not require outdoor antennas. This solution is designed to secure infrastructure, data centres, 5G base stations, and applications across various sectors, including aviation, maritime, land mobile, and IoT.

Iridium’s CEO, Matt Desch, expressed the company’s readiness to expand the availability of Iridium STL to global markets. Desch highlighted that this capability, coupled with their experienced partner ecosystem and international footprint, will contribute to making critical services more efficient, reliable, and secure.

Desch also pointed out that one of the benefits of the acquisition is Satelles’ familiarity with many of Iridium’s existing partners.

Looking ahead, Iridium anticipates that the STL business line will generate over US$100 million in service revenues annually by 2030, in addition to revenue from equipment and engineering services.
